Responsibility without authority

Responsibility without authority means that a man pays for the consequences but has no part in the decision. He is expected to fund a chosen home, lifestyle, or plan for a child. His right to refuse is treated as an evasion of the male role.

The decision-maker answers

Duty without a vote turns a man into the executor of somebody else’s will. He receives the price after the choice, learns about a move after outsiders have approved it, or is ordered to cover debt he never accepted.

A joint decision lets each person influence its cost and timing. When one person reserves the decision, that person also reserves responsibility for the result.

What to do

Do not accept an obligation after being excluded from the choice. Set the budget, risk limit, and right to stop before money is spent. Separate shared money from personal decisions.

The answer is simple: “I answer for decisions we made together. I do not answer for a decision made without my consent.” Authority and responsibility belong in the same hands.
